What the record shows

Issue history

Auto fill / auto leveler

Open, unresolved since June 2024 19 entries

The longest running item. Water loss traced first to a suspected check valve, then in April 2026 to a failed solenoid that Jersey Pools replaced. The pool is still losing water and the owner is filling by hose, which led directly to the July 2026 incident.

  1. Jul 23, 2026 (Thu, night) Owner site visit

Owner arrived to find the hose still running and overflowing into the bay, roughly 35 hours after it was placed. Pool also found low on salt with a very dirty filter. No one from Jersey Pools had returned to check the hose. Estimated water volume approximately 20,000 gallons.

  2. Jul 22, 2026 (Wed, 10:30 a.m.) Owner site visit

Jersey Pools placed a fill hose in the pool and left. This was the manual workaround for the non-functioning autofill.

  3. Jul 7, 2026 Email, 'Auto fill' thread

Owner asked, 'how did you make out on the autofill?' No response received. This remains the open item.

  4. Jun 29, 2026 Email, 'Auto fill' thread

    Owner replied, 'Sounds good, thanks.'

  5. Jun 26, 2026 Email from Brendan Craig

Brendan replied, 'I recall there being an issue but i don't recall what. I will reach out to Shane and circle back next week if that's alright with you.' The work he could not recall had been completed and billed by his own technicians ten weeks earlier.

  6. Jun 26, 2026 Email, 'Auto fill' thread reopened

Owner wrote that the autofill appears to be off, could not recall what the original issue was, and reported the pool lost about an inch in five days while fully covered. Owner was filling by hose and asked for an automated solution, or at minimum a timer that kills the fill after about four hours.

  7. Apr 21, 2026 Email to Jessica McElvane

Owner confirmed payment sent by check for invoice 237707-1. Jessica acknowledged receipt.

  8. Apr 16, 2026 Invoice 237707-1, Service, Callback

Technician notes: 'Replaced solenoid, bad glue joint, re plumbed. Left auto fill on.' This is the only written record of a completed autofill repair.

  9. Apr 15, 2026 Invoice 237707-1, Service, Pool Light

Technician notes: 'Replaced 4 accent lights, set up Omni Direct. Auto fill solenoid isn't shutting, fill water bypassing Valve, Shut off supply.' First time the solenoid is named in writing as the failing component.

  10. Apr 13, 2026 Invoice 235357-1, Pool Opening

Technician notes from Robert Falkenstein and Gray Sabo: '3 of 4 accent lights are out. Pool deep end works. Water is below the skimmers, auto fill supply is off inside.' The autofill was still shut off at opening, consistent with where the 2025 threads left it.

  11. Sep 14, 2025 Email, 'Auto fill' thread

Owner asked someone to stop by and turn the autofill off, having switched it on and not wanting it running continuously. The thread then went silent for nine months.

  12. Sep 8, 10 and 13, 2025 Email, 'Pool Closing' thread

After Jamie Wagner confirmed the October 13 closing, the owner asked three separate times whether the autofill had been fixed, including one message stating it was the fourth time asking. No answer appears in the thread.

  13. Sep 5, 2025 Email, A.R. Aitken Builders

Donna Christison asked for the pool closing date because she did not want to shut off the irrigation system if the pool autofill is tied into it. Owner replied September 7 that the pool would be closed the week of October 13.

  14. Aug 18, 2025 Email, 'Pool level' thread

Owner asked whether Shane had repaired the auto leveler, noting water was near the bottom of the skimmer, and said he would turn it on and off manually in the meantime. Brendan replied that Shane had looked at the autofill that morning and they would circle back the next day. No circle back appears by email.

  15. Aug 16, 2025 Email follow-up

Another follow-up asking where things stood with Shane and Bill. No reply.

  16. Aug 10, 2025 Email to Jersey Pools

Owner reported water still pouring down the back of the pool whenever the auto leveler is on, noted that a technician had turned it back on after the owner had shut it off, and pointed out that the same problem the prior year produced a water bill of over 100,000 gallons.

  17. Jun 13, 15 and 17, 2025 Email follow-ups

Owner accepted the return to Thursday service, then followed up twice asking whether Shane and Bill had resolved the autofill valve issue and whether Steve had an autocover timeline. No reply on the thread.

  18. Jun 9, 2025 Email from Brendan Craig

Brendan said the technicians believe the autofill check valve is leaking, so pool water is backflowing out of the pool into the autofill, which was dropping the salt level. He said Shane and Bill were working to address it and told the owner to ignore the alarm. He also offered Thursdays back and said he would chase Steve on the autocover replacement.

  19. Jun 25, 2024 Email, 'WiFi module' thread

Owner noticed the pool level dropping and asked whether a valve should be open. Brendan Craig replied that Bill had shut the autofill off because water was backflowing from the pool into the supply line and causing water loss, and that Jersey Pools had a work order in to install a check valve to prevent it. No record exists that this check valve was ever installed.

Low salt

Open, awaiting response since July 24 4 entries

Low salt has twice coincided with autofill water loss. Jersey Pools technicians made that connection themselves in June 2025. The same pairing is present again in July 2026.

  1. Jul 24, 2026 Email to Jamie Wagner and Jessica McElvane

Owner asked Jersey Pools to send someone to adjust the salt. No reply received.

  2. Jul 23, 2026 Owner site visit

Pool found low on salt during the Thursday night visit, alongside the running hose and dirty filter.

  3. Jun 9, 2025 Email from Brendan Craig

Brendan attributed the continuous low salt alarm to the leaking autofill check valve back-flowing pool water, which diluted and dropped the salt level. He advised ignoring the alarm.

  4. Jun 7, 2025 Email to Jersey Pools

Owner reported a low salt alarm that had been running for weeks and asked what it meant. In the same message the owner objected to the service day being moved from Friday to Tuesday without notice.

Filter cleaning and weekly service

Open, raised in writing July 26 2 entries

The filter was found very dirty during a site visit and does not appear to be cleaned as part of the weekly service. Confirmation of what weekly service actually covers is outstanding.

  1. Jul 26, 2026 Email to Brendan Craig and Jamie Wagner, cc Jessica McElvane

Owner sent a consolidated message covering the dirty filter, the low salt, and the unanswered autofill follow-up, and asked for confirmation that filter cleaning is part of the weekly service.

  2. Jul 23, 2026 Owner site visit

Filter observed very dirty on the Thursday night visit and did not appear to have been cleaned.

Invoices and billing record

Paid 2 entries

Two 2026 invoices carry the technician notes that document the autofill repair. Both are paid.

  1. Invoice 237707-1, invoiced Apr 16, 2026 Service invoice, total $3,566.91

Service dates April 15 and 16, 2026. Line items include a Jandy one inch plastic solenoid valve, 24V with flow control, at $246.33; a standard service call at $135.00 offset by a $135.00 customer appreciation discount; installation labor for a technician and helper, two at $247.50 totaling $495.00, which covers the light replacement as well; and four Hayward ColorLogic 320 accent LEDs at $650.99 each totaling $2,603.96. Paid by check, confirmed April 21, 2026.

  2. Invoice 235357-1, work completed Apr 13, 2026 Pool opening invoice, $0.00 under weekly contract

Brushed cover, removed winter plugs, started system, tested equipment, added chemicals. Notes record water below the skimmers and the auto fill supply off inside.

What we are asking for

  1. An answer on the autofill, referencing invoice 237707-1 and the April 15 and 16, 2026 service dates, confirming whether the replacement solenoid is holding and whether the check valve described in 2024 was ever installed.
  2. Someone on site to adjust the salt, and an inspection of the autofill at the same visit since the two have been linked before.
  3. The filter cleaned, and written confirmation of whether filter cleaning is included in the weekly service.
  4. A discussion of remediation for the approximately 20,000 gallons lost in the July 22 and 23 hose incident.
